'White Lies' - a short film
by Harry Shaw
An autistic boy (Bill Milner) confronts his mother (Sian Clifford) about the existence of the tooth fairy.
This short is very close to my heart. Although the lead character isn't based on him, I have a brother with learning difficulties. Having met a number of his close friends I began to write a character based on my experiences with them. With 'White Lies' my aim was to explore the difficulty of this type of disability but also the endearing, and at times humorous, side to it.
The Production
Bill Milner (iBoy, Son of Rambow) and Sian Clifford (Fleabag, See How They Run) play 'Rory' and 'Helen' and I couldn't have wished for a better cast. To develop these characters which such accomplished actors was fantastic.
The project was kindly funded by The Narrative - a digital film studio - and produced by Archie Pearch of Clarendon Works Films. Director of Photography was Lloyd Cook. Emily Jones at Encore did an incredible job colouring the film and Harvey Gunn performed foley, edited dialogue and mixed the track.
